Bloomsburg Baseball Drops Twin Bill to Lincoln Memorial

HARROGATE, TN- The Bloomsburg University baseball team dropped a pair of games to Lincoln Memorial University on Friday evening. Bloomsburg dropped game one, 9-8, and game two, 5-3.

In game one, the Huskies jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, with all the runs coming with two outs. Bloomsburg took advantage of sloppy defense by Lincoln Memorial, scoring the first two runs on an error and a wild pitch respectively. The third run of the inning came when Donaven Rodriguez (Manheim/ Manheim Central) stole home on a double steal.

However, Lincoln Memorial added a run in the second and four more in the fourth to take a 5-3 lead. The Huskies responded with three runs in the top of the fifth and another two in the sixth to take an 8-5 lead. Vinnie James (Bristol/Bristol), Kevin Ward (Upper Darby/ Monsignor Bonner), and Preston Hitchcock (Laveyville/ Wyalusing Valley) each had RBI singles in the fifth inning. Matt Robinson (York/ Red Lion) had a two-RBI single in the sixth inning.

In the bottom half of the inning the Rail Splitters added two more runs to cut Bloomsburg's lead to 8-7. In the bottom of the seventh, Lincoln Memorial loaded the bases with no one out. After walking in the tying run, Bloomsburg pitcher Chris Tressler allowed the game winning single and Lincoln Memorial walked-off with a 9-8 victory.

In game two Bloomsburg pitcher Casey Markey (York/ Dallastown) held Lincoln Memorial scoreless until the bottom of the third. However, the Rail Splitters scored one run in the inning and four more in the fourth inning to take a 5-0 lead. In the top of the seventh Bloomsburg cut the lead to 5-3 on RBI doubles by Hitchcock and Ward and the Huskies brought the tying run to the plate. However the Rail Splitters recorded the final out to earn the victory.

The Huskies (5-8) will take on Lincoln Memorial in another double header tomorrow at 2 p.m.
